what's here ?
Here you can find my hand made pebbleweights (or paperweights if you prefer),
I call them pebbleweights because they are like pebbles in shape but you would never find these
pebbles on any beach.
Hand made at the Siddy Langley Glass Studio from lead glass crystal, by traditional glass forming technique
"The glass is gathered, by means of a steel bar, from the furnace which contains the molten glass,
The "gather" is then formed into shape literally by hand ( although protected by wet paper )
after which coloured glasses and precious metals are rolled many times onto the surface.
after the decoration and reheating are finished the piece is "paddled" into the pebble shape.
Using iron tools the glass is carefully squeezed off the end of the steel bar until it is attached only by a small stalk. The internal heat is utilised to drop the piece down on the stalk to create a clean underside.
A secret reduction process is then applied which causes the precious metals in the glass to be
brought to the surface in refractive plates which results in the irridescent finish, rather like
the look of some butterfly wings.
The processes applied are entirely natural and so it is possible that, by volcanic processes
and weathering, such an item could exist in nature, but then would be considered a precious jewel."
